Hi!
I have several long range rifles but I just picked up a nice Ruger in a 270 WSM with a SS barrel.
I am always confused as to what scope to buy.
I also have a Remington 7MM Mag with a 3-9 Bushnell scope that I am perfectly happy with.
This new Ruger has a SS barrel and rings so I would like a silver scope with 12x or higher and a Mil dot reticle.
I would like to keep it under $500.
What can you suggest for long range shooting?
I do more target shooting then anything from a bench.
Thanks,
Don
Hi Don,
It’s tough to find the mil-dot reticle in a silver scope with a minimum of 12x and under $500.
Here are some options that are close to your requirements:
Leupold VXIII: http://store.theriflescopestore.com/leu62330.html
Great optics and very durable.
Nikon Titanium: http://store.theriflescopestore.com/nitisc5va44a.html
Nikon Buckmaster: http://store.theriflescopestore.com/nibusc4va40s.html
If you could live with a black scope there are a lot of options the meet the mil-dot,12x and $500 requirements.

Do you carry a Zeiss 6×20x50 in matte black with a Z-800 Reticle? Also can you get it illuminated? I do not see this scope on your web site.
Ken
Hi Ken,
The Zeiss 6-20×50mm comes with the RapidZ 1000 reticle only, not the 800. And there is no illuminated reticle available.
You can see the RapidZ 1000 scope here: http://store.theriflescopestore.com/zemccosc596v.html

Dear Sir,
I am going to order a Burris Fullfield 3-9 Variable (BSC 200166) scope for my new Marlin 308MX rifle. Could you please tell me which rings and bases I will need to mount it?
Thanks,
Jim
Hi Jim,
I’d go with the Burris Standard one piece base and the Burris Signature standard rings.
The Signature rings have a set of plastic inserts that go between the metal ring and your scope. This keep you scope from getting scratched up and helps take out any small misalignment between the front and rear rings. I used them for the first time this year on my model 70 Winchester and really liked them.
You can see the base here: http://store.theriflescopestore.com/sublfi5.html
and the rings here: http://store.theriflescopestore.com/bu1undoripam.html
and the scope: http://store.theriflescopestore.com/bufuiisc3va44.html
Hope that helps!

I have a Mini 14, .223 cal, Model 82 that has nothing in the way of a mount or scope.
What would be the best scope for a 200 to 300 yard range? Scope and mounting hardware costs? – Lee
Hi Lee,
Ruger’s Mini-14 sure is a nice little gun. For 200 to 300 yard shots, I think a scope with a top end of 12x or 16x would work well.
Here’s some solid scopes that would work well for you:
The 3-12x or even the 4-16x would be fine. The BDC reticle comes in handy for hold over estimation on longer shots. Price is about $400.
The 4-12x models with adjustable objectives and the LR Duplex reticle is a good choice. Price is about $460
The 4-16x model with the ballistic reticle. Price is about $370.
Of these scopes, the Nikon offers the best value. The Leupold is a little more expensive but is made in the USA and these folks are real easy to deal with should you ever need any service. The Bushnell would be the economy scope. It’s a solid scope, lower tech than the Nikon or Leupold, but it is a good scope for the money.
As far as mounts, most guys go with the B-Square side mount. It Installs by taking off the bolt stop cover plate and putting on the side mount. You can see under the mount plate to still use the iron sights. They come with one inch rings. They’re $69. You can find one here: http://theriflescopestore.com/rumi14simo.html
Hope this helps!

I’ve a Remington 513-T that I’d like to have scoped. I need information on what bases and rings would be best for this. I’d like to avoid taping and dieing if possible, but I’ll do it if I have to. Richard H.
Hi Richard,
There’s nothing commercially available, but I’m told a guy named Ken Viani make a custom base for the 513-T.
Good luck!
